Propecia v/s Rogaine
With more and more people suffering from hair loss, there has been a tremendous increase in the demand for hair loss products. Going by the reports, around 2/3 of men suffer from the problem by the time they reach the age of 35 years. This number increase to 85% of the men by 50 years of age. Considering this, the market has been flooded with hair loss products making incredible claims. However, to find the best among them is not an easy task. The American Hair Loss Association has mentioned that there are only two products that have actually proved to be effective for hair loss.
- Propecia (Finasteride) - A propecia pill consists of Type II 5-alpha-reductace, the enzyme that helps to convert testosterone (male hormone) into DHT (dihydrotestosterone) which is done by the over activity of testosterone on hair follicles. A dosage of 1mg propecia everyday can reduce the DHT hormone by around 60%. The results of this hair product have proved to be effective in putting a stop to hair loss in 86% of users. It have shown results for re-growth of hair in 65% men and probably this is the reason why it is considered to be the best hair loss product till date.
- Rogaine (Minoxidil) - Available in the form of a liquid solution or foam, Rogaine has been proven to enhance re-growth of hair and reduces the hair loss in some users. This was the first product that has proved to be effective for the treatment of hair loss. Though the results of Rogaine are also quite effective, yet it has been superseded by the impressive results of Propecia. At times this is also used by people who do not respond to the treatment of Propecia.
